Privacy Policy

Who we are

Wakey (“Wakey,” “we,” “us”) is a morning briefing service at https://heywakey.com. This policy describes how we handle personal information when you visit the site, create an account, or receive a digest.

For privacy questions or requests, email privacy@heywakey.com. Operational mail, including briefings you asked us to send, currently comes from briefing@heywakey.com.

What this policy covers

This policy applies to heywakey.com, the signed-in dashboard, briefing emails, and related APIs. It does not apply to third-party sites we link to in a briefing (BBC, NPR, and similar sources).

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run your account and produce your briefing.

• Account identity from Clerk: name, email address, user ID, and the sign-in method you chose (Google or email).
• Profile settings you enter: display name, timezone, and the address for morning email (leave this blank to stop digest email).
• Content you create: notes, and any inbox or message summaries posted to your account’s ingest APIs.
• Generated briefings: headlines, section copy, spoken scripts, and voice files stored so you can replay them.
• Technical data: IP address, device/browser, approximate location from IP, security logs, and cookies needed to keep you signed in.
• We do not currently read Gmail, Outlook, iCloud Mail, iMessage, or SMS. Sign-in with Google only confirms who you are — it does not grant mailbox access. Inbox skim, if we ship it, will require a separate, explicit connection and extra permissions.

How we use information

We use personal information to:

• Create and secure your account, and keep you signed in.
• Generate, store, and (if you set an email) send your morning briefing and voice file.
• Personalize greetings and timezone targeting.
• Operate, debug, and protect the service (fraud, abuse, uptime).
• Comply with law and respond to your requests.

Legal bases (EEA/UK)

If European or UK data-protection law applies, we process information because it is necessary to perform the contract (providing Wakey), because we have a legitimate interest in running and securing a consumer briefing product that does not override your rights, because we have your consent (for example optional email), or because we must comply with law.

Processors and subprocessors

We use specialized vendors. They process data on our instructions, not to sell your account:

• Clerk — authentication, sessions, and Sign in with Google.
• Neon — hosted Postgres for profiles, notes, communications, and briefings.
• Vercel — hosting, logs, and object storage for voice files.
• Resend — transactional briefing email.
• Vercel AI Gateway / OpenAI — drafting briefing text and synthesizing speech. Do not put secrets in notes that you would not send to a model provider.

AI processing

Briefings and spoken scripts are generated by AI from public news feeds plus any notes or communication summaries on your account. Model providers may process that text to return a result. We do not use your notes to train a public model of our own. Third-party model terms may still apply to the API call.

When we share information

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it with processors above, if you ask us to (for example sending mail to the address you saved), if required by law, or as part of a merger or sale of the service with notice where required.

California — do not sell or share

Wakey does not sell personal information as that term is used in the CCPA/CPRA, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If that ever changes, we will update this policy and provide a Do Not Sell or Share control. California residents may request to know, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, and may use an authorized agent. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. Email privacy@heywakey.com with the subject “California privacy request.”

Retention

Account, profile, notes, communications, and briefings stay until you delete them or close the account, unless we must keep a record longer (security, dispute, or law). Voice files in object storage follow the same account lifetime. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for operations and abuse prevention.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict processing of your information, and to object or withdraw consent. You can update name, email, and timezone in Settings. You can delete notes in the app. To delete the account itself, use the Clerk user menu or email privacy@heywakey.com. We may need to verify the request.

EEA/UK users may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We hope you will contact us first so we can fix the issue.

Children

Wakey is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child created an account, email privacy@heywakey.com and we will delete it.

International transfers

We and our processors operate in the United States and other countries. If you access Wakey from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, your information may be processed in the United States under contract clauses or other transfer tools our vendors provide.

Security

We use HTTPS, hosted identity (Clerk), and access-controlled databases. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. Please use a unique password if you sign in with email, and treat generated briefings as confidential to you.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes that affect your rights will be called out in the product or by email when we have an address for you.
